World Scent Dog Association
Scent Work & Track and Trail
A dog's nose is their superpower.
Whether your dog loves solving puzzles, lacks confidence, needs a positive outlet for their energy, or simply enjoys exploring the world through scent, these courses are designed to help them do exactly what they were born to do.
Using their nose is mentally enriching, emotionally rewarding, and one of the most natural activities a dog can experience. It's tremendous fun for both dogs and their owners, while also helping to build confidence, focus, resilience, and calmer behaviour in everyday life.
At RL Dog Training we offer two beginner-friendly five-week courses, each focusing on a different type of scent work.
Scent Detection
Learn how to teach your dog to search for and identify a specific target scent.
Starting with simple searches and building week by week, you'll discover how to develop your dog's incredible nose through fun games and practical exercises that you can continue at home long after the course has finished.
Scent Detection is perfect for:
Dogs of any age or breed
Building confidence
Improving focus and concentration
Providing excellent mental enrichment
Owners looking for a rewarding new hobby
No previous experience is required, and all equipment needed to get started is included in the course price.

NEW for 2026, Track and Trail
Discover the amazing world of following a human scent trail.
Rather than searching for a target odour, your dog will learn to follow the unique scent left behind by a person, working together with you to locate the hidden tracklayer.
Track and Trail taps into one of your dog's most natural instincts. Watching them solve the puzzle, make decisions independently, and gradually lead you to the hidden person is an unforgettable experience.
Many owners are surprised by just how calming and confidence-building this type of work can be, particularly for dogs who benefit from having a meaningful job to do.
Track and Trail is ideal for:
Dogs who love using their nose
Building confidence and resilience
Strengthening the partnership between dog and handler
Dogs who enjoy exploring outdoors
Owners looking for a completely different type of adventure together
No previous tracking experience is needed.
